Copter used to replace EVM fails to land
Diphu, Apr 10 (UNI) Election had to be stopped in a polling station in Upper Tarapung of Bokajhan constituency as the Electronic Voting Machine developed a snag.
Despite the Election Commission's(EC) best of intention to ensure smooth polling, voters in this remote part of Karbi Anglong hill district failed to cast their ballots.
The EC had kept a helicopter ready to replace EVMs that may develop problems.
But as luck would have it the copter failed to land because of foul weather. Consequently polling had to be stopped there.
EVMs are being used extensively in Asom for the Assembly polls this time. The EC had also taken steps to make sure that the machines are readily accessible to the people.
Besides organising training programmes on the use of the gadgets, it had a copter ready to replace EVMs that may develop problems.
