New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre and the states on a PIL seeking directions to the Centre, states, union territories to set up committees, nodal centre and agencies to check atrocities on dalits, women and other exploited sections of the society.

A Bench, comprising Mrs Justice Ruma Pal, Mr Justice Dalveer Bhandari and Mr Justice Marakandey Katju issued notices after hearing the plea by national campaign on dalit human rights and others who contended that states have not set up any committees to check such atrocities till date.

When the court asked the petitioners's counsel that what should the court do and what type of crime he wants to be checked by the states, the counsel responded that he wanted nodal agencies and state committees to monitor and check atrocities like if a hand is chopped off, a dalit women is raped and paraded naked etc.
