At least 40 killed in Meerut fire
Meerut, Apr 10 (UNI) At least 40 people were burnt to death and more than 40 injured when a fire swept through a trade fair here this evening in the worst-ever such tragedy in Meerut.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Raj Kumar Vishwakarma confirmed that 40 people had died in the fire at the three 'pandals' erected for the "Brands India Consumer Show", at the Victoria Park.
He said more than 500 people were inside the 'pandals' when the blaze erupted at 1745 hrs.
More than ten fire tenders have rushed to the spot and the injured were being shifted to the Sushila Jaswant Rai, Meerut Medical College and other hospitals.
