Arms, ammunition to disturb bypoll seized in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 10 (UNI) The Army today claimed to have seized a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives allegedly meant to be used in causing large-scale disruption during the April 24 by-elections in Pattan constituency of Baramulla district, a defence spokesman said.

On a tip-off, troops of 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) conducted a search operation in Abdul Salam Wani house at Lullipora village and seized a large quantity of explosives and other arms and ammunition, he added.

The cache included 400 kg of explosive material, 30 IEDs, 25 detonators, six AK 47 rifles, three UBGL launchers, 20 UBGL grenades, four hand grenades, six magazines, one radio set, one gunny bag of Russian primers for IEDs and 300 rounds of AK rifles.

The house owner was arrested and handed over to the Pattan police station, the spokesman said.

He said information revealed that these arms, ammunition and explosives were brought in recently to cause disruption in the April 24 bypoll in the area.
