AC to file PIL against NHPC
Itanagar, Apr 10: The Arunachal Congress has decided to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) either in the Supreme Court or High Court for its proposed construction of Lower Subansiri project at Gerukamukh bordering Arunachal and Assam.
An executive body meeting of the party held here yesterday under the chairmanship of its President Kamen Ringu to discuss the effects of the proposed construction of the project by NHPC further decided to see if the construction of power projects in the state by various private power companies and government undertaking companies were affecting the interest of the state and indigenous population, informed sources here today.
Meanwhile, the Arunachal unit of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has urged the NHPC to clear its stand on Assam and Arunachal boundary issue before executing the power project at Gerukamukh.
Supporting the statement of Chief Minister Gegong Apang on construction of NHPC project at Gerukamukh, the students union observed that the corporation must stop the construction of the project till dispute was solved, sources informed.
