5,043 companies registered in January 2006
New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The number of companies seeking registration is on the rise with 5,043 companies being registered in India under the Companies Act, 1956, during January 2006 against 3,416 firms in the year-ago period.
Of them, 5,031 companies were limited by shares including India Infrastructure Finance Co Ltd, Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd and Security Printing and Mining Corp of India Ltd, all three being public limited companies.
According to official figures, the Union Territory of Delhi reported the highest number of companies, limited by shares, registered during the month at 1,341 and the largest number of companies registered -- 1,484 -- came primarily under the classification of "Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Business Services".
During the month, besides the 5,031 companies limited by shares, 1 guarantee company and one unlimited liabilities company were also registered.
Of the 5,031 companies, 181 were public limited companies with an authorised capital of Rs 3933.7 crore and 4,848 were private limited companies with Rs 1,675.4 crore in authorised capital.
The total authorised capital of the companies limited by shares together amounted to Rs 5,609.1 crore.
After Delhi, the highest number of companies registered were in Maharashtra (1,013), followed by West Bengal (671), Tamil Nadu (310), Andhra Pradesh (308), Karnataka (240) and Gujarat (206). The seven states accounted for nearly 81 per cent of the total companies registered.
Analysis of the registration of the companies limited by shares showed that the highest number of companies registered fell under the classification of "Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Business Services" (1,484), followed by "Manufacturing" (1,210), "Wholesale and Retail trade, Restaurants and Hotels" (997), "Construction" (824) and "Community, Social and Personal Services" (184).
So far, 11 firms limited by shares have been struck off under Section 560 of the Companies Act or gone into liquidation and have ceased functioning.
