10 injured in clashes
Vadodara, Apr 10 (UNI) At least ten people, including a woman, were injured in a clash between two groups and subsequent police lathicharge in the sensitive Fatehpura area of the city today.
Six of the injured have been rushed to the SSG civil hospital, police said.
Trouble began after the anti-encroachment wing of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) evicted a road-side kiosk belonging to a member of the minority community.
Following The incident members of two communities took to the streets and indulged in heavy brickbatting. The mobs outnumbered the police and the VMC security personnel requisitioned for the eviction drive in the area. Additional reinforcements were called and senior police officials rushed to the spot as situation went out of control.
According to assistant police commissioner M G Damor, police lobbed eight teargas shells after the lathicharge failed to disperse the stone-pelting mob who also attacked and damaged over a dozen shops.
Mr Damor said the situation was now under control. However, no one had been arrested in connection with the riots so far.
