Thane, Apr 8, (UNI) Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) has asked housing complexes in Thane to provide buses to the former to enable them ease the demand of the commuters.

Addressing a meeting of the residents of the Pawar Nagar locality here, Deputy Transport Manager Kamlakar Dixit and Traffic Superintendent Gurunath Pednekar said that the TMT, which had a demand of about 500 buses, plies only 288 buses currently. And the backlog, he said, could be filled if residential societies came forward to donate their private buses to TMT.

He added, If housing complexes came forward to donate buses to the TMT then the TMT will operate these buses in the fixed routes and this will ease the burden on the commuters.

They also said that the proposal for additional buses for ladies, limited buses, new routes etc were underway and would become a reality in phasedwise manner.
