Baichung surrenders; released on personal bond

Howrah, Apr 7 (UNI) Indian Football captain Baichung Bhutia today surrendered before a Howrah court after an arrest warrant was issued against him for not appearing before the judge despite repeated summons in connection with a three-year old case.

Bhutia was released on a personal bond of Rs 200 and was instructed to appear before the court on May 20 to identify a culprit, who allegedly stole the Sikkimese's luggage in a train three years ago.

Earlier, First Judicial Magistrate Shadhan Kumar Mondal issued the arrest warrant against Baichung for failing to appear in the court for a case in 2003.

Mr Mondal asked the Salt Lake police to implement the order.

The incident happened when Bhaichung's luggage was stolen at Shalimar station while he was returning by Coromandel Express after playing a tournament in South India and the alleged thief was later arrested.

A case was lodged in the court. Subsequently the court issued summons to Baichung, but he failed to abide by the court order.
