Sensex strikes new all time high of 11,743 pts in choppy trade

Mumbai, Apr 5 (UNI) Equity markets were consolidating around 11,700 level for the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) this afternoon trading at 11,696 with a gain of 58 points at 1400 hrs.

The benchmark index of the BSE today opened up by 33 points at 11,671 and later touched a new all-time high of 11,743.69 with a gain of 105 points in the mid-morning session.

Sensex had closed at 11,638 points yesterday.

Sensex was little choppy this afternoon swinging between a high of 11,743 and a low of 11,653 points.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index also crossed 3,500 mark this morning once again, after opening unchanged at 3,483.15 points, and traded at 3,501 points up by 18 points.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE Capital Goods index was up 2.39 per cent, BSE Health Care index was up 2.29 per cent, BSE Bankex index was up 0.92 per cent and BSE Metal index was up 0.85 per cent.

The BSE Smallcap index was up by 1.33 per cent and BSE Midcap index was up by 1.46 per cent showing widespread gains.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Cipla, Ranbaxy, Larsen&Toubro, ACC, HLL, Reliance Energy, NTPC, Hindalco, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, and ICICI Bank.

Among the losers were Satyam Computers, TCS, Infosys Technologies, Maruti, Tata Motors, HDFC, Wipro, Tata Power, Tata Steel.

TVS Motors was up by 12.91 per cent to Rs 177.60 this morning.

Adhunik Metaliks was listed on the stock markets today.

Adhunik Metaliks' Rs 10 share at an issue price of Rs 37 opened at Rs 45 and touched a high of Rs 49.40 and was trading at Rs 42.50 with a premium of 15 per cent in the afternoon.
