Sehwag slips out of top ten, Dravid, Kumble move up in Test Rankings

Written by: Staff

Dubai, Apr 5: Virender Sehwag fell out of top 10, while his captain Rahul Dravid moved up one place to fourth among batsmen and ace leg-spinner Anil Kumble gained one place to occupy 10th position in the bowling list in the latest LG ICC Test Rankings issued today.

The out-of-form Indian opener is relegated to 12th place, down two spots, while Sachin Tendulkar remains static at 15th in the rankings headed by Aussie captain Ricky Ponting followed by South African Jaques Kallis and Pakistani skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The biggest gainer, though, is another Australian Mike Hussey who has broken into the top ten faster than any other player in history.

Just five months after his Test debut the left-hander is now placed 10th in the list, up five spots after scores of 73 and 89 against South Africa at The Wanderers.

Hussey's two innings helped ensure Australia won the final Test of their series against the Proteas and that victory not only gave Ricky Ponting's side a 3-0 clean sweep but also increased their lead at the top of the LG ICC Test Championship table.

Australia now have 131 rating points and are now 18 points clear of their nearest rivals England. India are in third place, two points further back.

South Africa have lost one rating point because of their defeat and although they have retained sixth spot they are now just one point clear of seventh-placed Sri Lanka.

Damien Martyn also moves up three places to 11th, after his 101 that played a key role in the side's two-wicket win in the final Test against the Proteas.

But, Adam Gilchrist has dropped out of top 20 and is now at his lowest ranking since 1999 after slipping seven spots to 25th position.

Australia still dominates the rankings having five batsmen in the top 20 with with Mathey Hayden fifth (down three after twin failures) and Justic Langer at 16th, besides Ponting, Hussary and Martyn.

Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralidaran still leads the bowling list ahead of Australia's Glenn McGrath, who missed the series in South Africa for personal reasons. South Africa's Makhaya Ntini remains in fourth place despite his 10-wicket match haul at The Wanderers, but he has narrowed the gap to third-placed Shane Warne, with just six rating points behind.

Kumble dethroned Andre Nel of South Africa to occupy the 10th position.

Among all-rounders, Jaques Kallis still tops the list, narrowly clear of England's Andrew Flintoff with Pollock in third position.

India's Irfan Pathan and Daniel Vettori of New Zealand occupy fourth and fifth.
