Medical students move Supreme Court
Mumbai, Apr 2 (UNI) Medical students, pursuing post-graduate degree, have filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court asking for a stay on government's decision of re-examination for the admission to post-graduate courses across the country owing to leakage of examination paper held on January 8 this year.
Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) Jt Secretary Dr Yoganand Patil said here today students who had appeared for the entrance examination for admission to post-graduate courses, have filed an SLP in the apex court, which will come up for hearing tomorrow.
In the petition, they have requested that the culprit who had leaked the exam paper, should be punished and withhold the results of suspected students, and direct the government to start giving admission to genuine students, said Dr Amit Gupta from KEM hospital, one of the petitioners.
Dr Gupta said the petition would come up for hearing tomorrow in the Supreme Court before a division bench of Justice Balakrishnan and Justice Navlekar.
In the examination, some 57,000 students had appeared across the country.
Dr Patil said the paper was leaked in Chennai and Delhi, and CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) sleuths had already arrested 26 people in this connection. They have also nabbed a person who had sent a short-text message (SMS) to students about the paper's leakage. So, punish the culprits who are involved in the case and give admission to others, he added.
