Russia to test bird flu vaccine on humans soon

Moscow, Apr 1 (UNI) Russia will soon test bird flu vaccine on humans after its examination at the the Tarasevich Control Institute in Moscow, Russian Academy of Sciences' Influenza Research Institute director Oleg Kiselyov said today.

A control set of several hundred doses has been sent for examination to the Tarasevich Control Institute after which it will be tested on volunteers,'' Mr Kiselyov told Interfax news agency.

He, however, did not specify when exactly the vaccine tests on humans will start.

Earlier, the bird flu vaccine tests on volunteers was to begin in February, but they were postponed several times as the methodology for the vaccine standardisation had not been developed.

All new vaccines in Russia have to undergo laboratory control work at the Tarasevich Control Institute before being tested on volunteers.
