K'taka may provide aid to unaided edu institutions

Hubli, Apr 1: The Karnataka Government is contemplating granting permanent aid to unaided educational institutions, started between 1987 and 1992, provided it had the necessary infrastructure, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti informed today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said there were in all 13,469 unaided educational institutions, including 285 primary and 2,170 higher primary schools.

To a question, Mr Horatti said of the 10,000 and odd vacancies to the posts of teachers in government educational institutions, 4,768 would be filled by May 31.

On the transfer of teachers, he said all new appointees would be posted in rural areas. Besides, senior-level staff working in rural areas would be brought to urban areas and vice versa, he added.
