Kolkata, Apr 1 (UNI) BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley today said it was 'preposterous' to think that Sourav Ganguly would need his backing to get into the Indian team.

Mr Jaitley, who has also been a BCCI office bearer was reacting to a news published in a section of the media that he and Ganguly had a secret meeting in Delhi and that plans were afoot on Mr Jaitley's part to make way for Sourav's return into the Indian team.

Criticising this media report, Mr Jaitley said he was in Kolkata as a poll observer for BJP and had nothing to do with cricket.

''It is preposterous to think that Sourav Ganguly would need my support or backing to get into the Indian squad,''he asserted, adding Sourav was ''too good a player and can bat for himself.'' He also made it amply clear that no secret meeting had taken place between him and Sourav in Delhi and nothing was scheduled during his visit to Kolkata now.
