Mumbai, Apr 1 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a builder to one-month simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for contempt of court.

A complaint was lodged against Bhavesh C Shah by Rajiv Gupta on January 30, 2003 under the Maharashtra Ownership Flats Act.

In his complaint, Mr Gupta said the builder had sold flats to the owners which were still under construction.

As per the agreement reached on February 17, 2003, the city civil court had given the builder a year's time to provide basic amenities to the occupants of the flat 'Nikunj Darshan', located in Borivali area of the city-suburb.

However, Shah failed to fulfil the agreement in the stipulated time following which the court announced the sentence.

He will be lodged in the Byculla jail.
