Patna, Apr 1 (UNI) The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) today demanded a ban on the proposed Rath Yatra of BJP from April 13 in the interest of maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood.

BPCC chief spokesman Prem Chandra Mishra described the fresh move of BJP as nothing but a political 'gimmick' aimed at gaining cheap popularity and consolidating its vote bank.

''The canard being spread by the BJP after the Varanasi temple attack, that there was largescale insecurity, was aimed at fanning communal frenzy. The BJP should have taken out a similar yatra after the attack on Akshardham Temple in Gujarat if it was really concerned about national security,'' he added.

Mr Mishra accused the saffron party of always 'resorting to such gimmicks' to consolidate its vote bank, whenever its popularity graph showed a 'receding' trend. He said the state Congress president had asked party workers to be alert and thwart any attempt of the BJP to 'foment' communal tension during its proposed Rath Yatra.

He charged Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with 'adopting double standard' as he was doing nothing to stop the yatra from passing through Bihar.

''Mr Kumar is only engaged in projecting his pro-minority image by ordering a fresh judicial inquiry into the Bhagalpur riot,'' he said adding, the chief minister was 'unconcerned' towards the repurcussion of BJP Rath Yatra, which might disturb communal amity creating law and order problem.
