Bank Manager, Sarpanch sent to jail in fraud case

Balasore, Apr 1 (UNI) A Bank Manager and a Sarpanch were among four people arrested and sent to jail today for allegedly misappropriating Rs 38 lakhs from Chauki branch of the UCO Bank.

Police said UCO Bank Chauki branch at Bhograi Radheshyam Dutta and Guneibasan Sarpanch Ashis Patra, besides, two other bank employees, were arrested in connection with the misappropriations in the bank.

The incident came to NOTICE during an inspection of the bank by a senior officer recently.

While the police initially arrested the Chief cashier of the bank Dasarathi Behera, three others, including the Bank Manager and the Sarpanch were arrested yesterday.

They were produced before the First Class Magistrate at Jaleswar, who remanded them to jail custody after rejecting their bail application.

Police said the Chauki branch of the UCO Bank had lifted Rs 40 lakhs from the main branch but on surprise raid after a tip-off by Bank's Chief Manager J K Pattnaik, a deficit of cash to the tune of over Rs 38 lakhs, was noticed and the matter was communicated to the police.
