Abducted police officials are safe in a Naxalite camp

Bhubaneswar, Apr 1 (UNI) Deep in jungle at an undisclosed place close to the Andhra Pradesh-Orissa border, the two police officers abducted by the armed Naxalites from R Udayagiri town on March 24 last, are shown in safe condition by a TV News Channel.

In a swift and unprecedented operation, nearly 400-odd armed leftwing ultras had attacked the small town of R Udayagiri in South Orissa under Naxalite prone Gajapati district last week killing three jawans and looting arms and ammunition from the OSAP barrack, Police station and treasury.

During their encounter with the force, the armed Naxalites abducted R Udayagiri police station Officer-in-charge Ranjan Mallick and R Udayagiri Sub Jail Superintendent Rabi Narayan Sethy at gun point.

Since then the Orissa police in close cooperation with the Andhra Pradesh police have launched extensive combing operation in the border areas to trace the two abducted officials kept hostage by the Naxalites but in vain.

However, two reporters of TV News Channel managed to accompany the Naxalites to the undisclosed places inside the deep jungle close to the Andhra Pradesh border to get a first hand information about the wellbeing of the two abducted officials.

On March 30 last a letter bearing the signatures of the two abducted officials sent to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Director General of Police Suchit Das urged them for their release while fulfilling the demands of the Maoists.

They said the Maoists have demanded a ban on handing over the state's natural resources to foreign companies, stop suppression of the people's movement and displacement in the name of setting up of big industries, withdrawal of all ''false'' cases lodged against the tribal activists and Maoists and treat the Maoists prisoners languishing in various jails in the state as political prisoners.
