Six drown as fishing vessel capsizes off Vengurla coast
Panaji, Mar 31 (UNI) Six sailors drowned when a fishing vessel 'Sea Master' capsized after hitting a steamer off Vengurla coast in neighbouring Maharashtra State late last night, the Coast Guard today said.
Commandant M Prasad, in an release here, said the local fishermen rescued two of the eight crew members, while the bodies of six others were yet to be recovered.
The Coast Guard authorities launched a search and rescue mission with a helicopter and a fast petrol craft, immediately after an alert by the Goa Fishing Boat Owners' Association.
The search party sighted the debris of the sunken boat and scattered fishing nets, but could not locate any survivors, the release added.
