Sensex at new high of 11,356 pts in volatile noon session
Mumbai, Mar 31 (UNI) In a volatile session, the 30-share Sensitive Index (Sensex)of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) swung 125 points between an all-time high of 11,356.95 and low of 11,231 in the trade so far.
The benchmark index of BSE traded flat with a gain of 9.28 points at 11,316.32, at 1405 hrs.
Earlier in the morning, Sensex opened with a gap of 18 points at 11,325, as compared to the last close of 11,307.
In a historic rally, Sensex touched a new high of 11,356.95 points, surpassing the earlier high of 11,338.
BSE capital goods index was up by 1.55 per cent; consumer durable index was up by 2.41 per cent; BSE auto index was up by 1.75 per cent and metal index was up by 1.63 per cent.
The BSE smallcap index was also up by 1.47 per cent and the midcap index was up by 1.68 per cent.
The top gainers on the Sensex were - BHEL, Cipla, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Maruti, Bajaj Auto, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, Satyam Computer, NTPC and Dr Reddy's Lab.
The losers on the Sensex were - Ranbaxy, TCS, ONGC, Infosys, Larsen&Toubro, Hindustan Lever, ITC, Wipro, Bharti Tele and Hindalco.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 3,415 with a loss of three points, as compared to the last close of 3,318 at 1405 hrs. Earlier, the Nifty opened higher at 3,420, as compared to the last close of 3,418.
