POSCO-India to set up HRD centre in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Mar 31 (UNI) POSCO-India, the Indian subsidiary of South Korea Steel major POSCO, will invest nearly 10 million dollar to set up a Human Resource Development Centre at Paradip.

The Company had signed a MoU with the Orissa government to set up a 12 million tonnes capacity Steel plant at Paradip at an estimated cost of 12 billion Dollar.

A POSCO-India release issued here today said the construction of the training centre would commence in June 2006 and will be completed by 2007.

The center with its various training modules targeted at both POSCO-India employees and the local resident, would be able to train about 250 people at a time.

The company was planning to recruit locals for its various activities and operations for which the Human Resources Development Center would provide the necessary vocational training to facilitate job opportunities.

POSCO-India has also decided to celebrate the 38th foundation day of POSCO on April 1 coinciding with the Foundation Day for Orissa, being celebrated as Utkal Diwas.

Company's Managing Director Soung-Sik Cho while extending his wishes on the eve Utkal Divas, said April one was more significant for both Orissa and POSCO to share the same date of establishment.

Mr Cho said POSCO-India would renew the pledge to work towards the social and economic betterment of Orissa and its people and keep its commitment towards spearheading social responsibility programmes in the state.
