Minister announces ex-gratia to families of accident victims

Jammu, Mar 31 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3140 lakh to the next of kin of about 3500 people who were killed in road accidents during the last four years.

The Minister said 9824 accidents had been investigated and 515 cases were still under probe to ascertain the cause.

Mr Sharma said the government had also sanctioned Rs 1,00,000 each to five NGO's for organising road safety awareness programmes for Srinagar, Jammu, Kupwara and Rajouri to prevent such incidents in future.

About 3,500 people were killed, 32,446 injured and 360 lost their limbs in road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir during the last four years UNI RKS/HGV HS HT1825 .
