K'taka to put down erring mine owners with an iron hand
Bellary, Karnataka, Mar 31 (UNI) The district administration is all set to take stringent action against mine owners engaged in illegal transportation of iron ore without obtaining permits and road passes from the departments concerned.
District Superintendent of Police Pankajkumar Thakur had sent a proposal to the state governemnt seeking permission to book erring mine owners under the Mines and Mineral Regulatgory Act, hitherto used to book sandalwood smugglers.
Wasting no time in cracking the whip on the offenders, the district administration had set up five check-posts at key points to check illegal transportation of iron ore.
Talking to reporters here today, Mr Thakur informed that the two check-posts had been set up in Gadiganur, one each at Sandur-Kudligi, Hospet-Sandur at Kallalli point and Torangal. A Sub-Inspector of Police or ASI, along with two constables, had been deployed round-the-clock at the check-posts. Besides, ten home guards had also been pressed into service. The move had brought down illegal transportation of the mineral to a large extent, he added.
