Gram panchayat members clash at meet, 6 hurt

Palanpur, Gujarat, Mar 31 (UNI) At least six persons, three of them women, were injured in a clash between two groups at Chalwada village in Radhanpur taluka, about 110 kilometres from here, today.

Three persons have been admitted to the Patan Civil Hospital with bullet injuries, while three others with minor injuries were discharged after receiving treatment at the Radhanpur Referral Hospital.

The incident took place when village sarpanch Joraji Pochaji Thakore called a gram panchayat meeting to pass the next year's budget.

It took a violent turn as some panchyat members objected to the legality of covening the meeting, Radhanpur Deputy Superintendent of Police B S Pandor told UNI.

Sticks, sickles and fire-arms were used in the clash. However, the situation was brought under control with the timely arrival of the police.

Those seriously injured have been identified as Thakore Rameshji Bachuji (28), Thakore Sardarji Himatji (32) and Thakore Bachji Anaji (24).
