Govt to seek probe by ACB in condom scam
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 31 (UNI) Maharashtra Government will seek probe by anti corruption bureau (ACB) into the alleged re-packaging of condoms meant for the free public distribution in a private condom manufacturing unit, Maharashtra Health Minister Vimal Mundada today said.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference here, Ms Mundada said that Government will not spare culprits behind it.
City's Osmanpura police on March 28, had raided a godown and seized stock of condoms worth Rs 6.39 lakh meant for the public distribution under the government scheme and arrested three persons for allegedly involved in re-selling of these condoms.
Investigation into the case had been handed over to the crime branch by the Osmanpura police following the directives by the city police chief yesterday.
The crime branch has lodged an offence against the owners of the Devgiri Latex Private Ltd -- Mr Shirish Boralkar and Hemant Mirkhelkar.
The crime branch today interrogated Mr Ulhas Gavli, the former chairman of the company, who had resigned from his post in connection with the seizure.
The police have raided the godown situated in Patoda Shivar, when the labourers engaged separating the condoms from their original packing on march 29.
The police had also carried out a raid on the factory premises and seized a stock of the condoms meant for government's free public distribution.
These condoms were manufactured by the Latex Delux company at Thiruvananthapuram and the police were suspecting the accused might have obtained these condoms by an illegal way for a resell of the same by changing its covers.
The Foods and Drugs Administration (FDA) officials are also investigating the case simultaneously, FDA sources said.
