Mumbai, Mar 31 (UNI) City police have arrested Vikram Rote, son of charity commissioner and three others for allegedly assaulting NCP (National Congress Party) youth-wing leader at August Kranti maidan in south Mumbai late last night.

Gaodevi police sources said that NCP acitivist S Chaudhary, hailing from Dhule district in Maharashtra, was assaulted by Vikram Rote and his two associates Sangam Patil and Abdul Magore at 2230 hrs last night.

The trio picked up and beat Mr Chaudhary near August Kranti Maidan, while he was going to a hotel. Later, Chaudhary lodged a compalint with Gaodevi police station.

Chaudhary was beaten up because he had complained to police officials and local politicians that the bar girls of National and Commander Beer Bar at Grant Road used to indulge in ''obscene acts''.

It is believed that Rote was a partner in this bar.

Rote had asked Chaudhary to stop complaining to the police and threatened him with dire consequences.

Chaudhary who used to frequent Mumbai on political work, would also go to beer bars, and National and Commander Beer Bar was one of them.

Although Chaudhary had written a letter to Mumbai police commissioner A N Roy about the threats issued to him by Rote, he was attacked by the latter and his associates yesterday.

The police arrested the trio this morning and were produced before the Metropolitian Magistrate at Girgaon Court. They have been remanded to judicial custody till tomorrow.
