33 Indian companies hit the coveted Forbes list

New Delhi, Mar 31 (UNI) Energy majors ONGC and Reliance Industries led a pack of 33 Indian companies, mainly from software and banking, into the top 2000 companies in the coveted Global Forbes list.

Among Indian companies Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of India (ONGC) topped the list with a ranking 256. Reliance industries joined the fray by touching the 298th position and stood second while State Bank of India and Indian oil were kept at 310th and 311th position respectively. NTPC, ICICI Bank, Steel authority of India, Bharat Petroleum, Tata steel, Tata Consultancy services and ITC followed the titans.

Other companies which managed to enter the list were Infosys technologies, Hindustan Petroleum, HDFC, Tata motors,Wipro, Punjab National Bank, Gail(India), Canara Bank, Bharti Tele Ventures, Larsen And Toubro, Bharat Heavy electricals, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Hindalco Industries and Indian Overseas Bank.

The list however, showed that on one hand where 17 Indian companies gained in terms of ranking , 11 slipped to lower rankings on the other in comparison to last year's listing.

HDFC, National Aluminium, Bajaj Auto, Industrial Development Bank of India and UCO bank were some companies that were in line with the growth trend whereas 11 companies, mostly from banking sector lost their position.

Pakistan also saw two of its companies namely Oil and Development and Pakistan Telecom entering the arena. More than 50 companies, altogether based in China and Hong Kong made it to the big hit list.

On the whole, Citigroup bagged the the number one slot while others who followed were General Electric, Bank of America, American International Group, HSBC group,ExxonMobil, Royal Dutch Shell/Shell Group, BP, JPMorgan Chase and UBS.

The list showed that United States again remained dominant in the list and United Kingdom and Russia were working hard to follow the same suit.

The list witnessed 173 new faces this year being France's Electriciti de France the biggest which is indicative of the fact that a good performer gets its share of recognition despite being new in the market.

All these global companies were judged on the basis of their sales, profits, assets and market value.
