Woman acquitted of charges of murdering daughter

Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) A sessions court here has acquitted a woman of the charges of murdering her two-month-old daughter in September, 2002.

While discharging her from the murder charges yesterday, Additional Sessions Judge P S Paranjpe observed that medical evidence showed no trace of insecticides in the child's body.

According to prosecution, Preeti Joiser, a resident of Bhandup area of Mumbai, on September 16, 2002 tried to commit suicide while consuming insecticides and also administered the same to her daughter.

Her neighbour, who saw both lying in an unconscious condition, rushed them to a nearby hospital where Joiser survived but the infant died.

Preeti was prosecuted for murder under section 302 of the IPC.

The accused, who got married on August 12, 2001, left a suicide note before attempting suicide saying that ''she was fed up with life and no one is responsible for her taking this extreme step.'' UNI PVN GK MSJ BD1725
