Soil health cards for farmers in Haryana
Chandigarh, Mar 30 (UNI) The Haryana government has launched a massive campaign for educating the farmers to make balanced use of fertilizers and to distribute soil health cards listing the soil fertility levels state Agriculture Director R K Khullar here today said.
He said that all the major fertilizer supplying companies will select at least 20 acres of land in one district each wherein demonstration on balanced fertilizers use would be goven by them. He said that the process of selection of the villages in the allocated districts would be completed soon.
The Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) would also be actively associated in this campaign.
He said these companies would also paste wall paintings on prominent places, preferably on road side, in the state wherein recommendations of balanced use of fertilizer and educative slogans would be indicated. The companies would organize the demonstrations in the villages in collaboration with Deputy Director of Agriculture of the concerned district.
He said soils of all the farmers of such selected villages would be got tested for NPK nutrients and micronutrients and all the farmers would be given soil health card with specific recommendations of use of fertilizers. He said during the next financial year about two lakh soil health cards would be distributed among the farmers.
Mr Khullar said the uptake of various chemical fertilizers in Haryana had increased from the level of 1731 metric tonnes (MT) of Urea, 469 MTs of DAP and 249 MTs of MOP at the time of inception of the state to 15.13 lakh MTs, 4.86 lakh MTs and 25,000 MTs respectively during the year 2004-05. Efforts were being made to educate farmers to use nitrogen, phosphorus and potash in ideal ratio.
