Sensex zooms to new high of 11,306 pts
Mumbai, Mar 30 (UNI) The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading with a gain of 98 points at 11,282 at 1310 hrs.
The 30 share Sensitive Index (Sensex) today opened with a big gap of 58 points at 11,241.78, as compared to the last close of 11,183 and crossed a new landmark of 11,300.
It touched a new high of 11,306.19 points in afternoon session after crossing 11,300 mark in morning trade.
With over Rs 300 crore foreign fund inflow in the equity market on Tuesday and more than 800 crore in the last two days, the sentiments in the market were bullish.
Investors ignored even the sharp rise in the crude oil prices to USD 66.20 per barrel in the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).
Most of the sectoral indices were trading in the green at this hour.
Only BSE Bankex and Consumer Durable indices were in the red.
BSE Metal index was up by 2.94 per cent. The health care index was up by 1.94 per cent.
The BSE smallcap index was also up by 1.75 per cent and BSE midcap index was up by 1.04 per cent.
The top gainers on the Sensex were - Ranbaxy, Hindalco, Bharti Tele, ONGC, Wipro, Tata Steel, TCS, Tata Power, HDFC Bank and ITC.
Ranbaxy was up and buoyant on the news of new acquisition in Romania, the scrip traded with a gain of 8.48 per cent to Rs 446 with a gain of Rs 34.85.
Telcom pack was on fire this morning led by MTNL, which was showing good gain of 3.93 per cent to Rs 194.40, however, it lost early gains and traded at Rs 189.80 in the afternoon.
Bharti Televentures was also up by 3.18 per cent to Rs 406.75 in the afternoon.
Yesterday, VSNL had gained 9.97 per cent and it gained three per cent this morning trading at Rs 485.60 but was trading flat at Rs 473 in the afternoon.
The losers on the Sensex were Hindustan Lever, State Bank of India, NTPC, Satyam Computers, Maruti, Infosys, ICICI Bank and BHEL.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 3,392 with a gain of 38 points, as compared to the last close of 3,354 at 1300 hrs. Earlier the Nifty opened flat but shot up to the new peak of 3,396 in the mid-morning session.
