EU, US turn to WTO over China in auto parts row

BRUSSELS, Mar 30 (Reuters) The European Union and the United States turned to the World Trade Organisation on Thursday to get China to lower restrictions on imports of car parts, a long-standing complaint of Western carmakers.

''The EU has today asked China to participate in consultations at the WTO in Geneva on China's tariff rules on parts for automobiles which the EU believes are not compatible with China's WTO obligations,'' the European Commission said.

The United States would also make a similar move on Thursday, the EU executive said in a statement.
