Sensex touches new high of 11,157.75 goes above Dow Jones index
Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today went ahead of Dow Jones Industrial Average at 11,154 points as it touched a high of 11,157.75 in the early morning trade today.
The 30 share Senstive Index (Sensex) opened with a gain of 17 points at 11,103, as compared to the last close of 11,086.
Sensex was leading with a gain of 45 points at 11,131 at 1352 hrs.
With Rs 550.20 crore foreign fund inflow in the equity market, the markets were trading with positive sentiments, despite lower closing of the US markets.
However the Japnese market index Nikkei was up by 1.5 per cent hovering around 16,900 mark.
BSE IT and TECk indices were in the positive zone with gain of 1.60 per cent and 1.33 per cet. Health care index was up by 1.27 per cent.
The BSE smallcap index was too up by 1.73 per cent and sugar stocks were leading the gainers list this afternoon.
BSE midcap index was too up by 0.78 per cent.
The top gainers on the Sensex were - Ranbaxy, Hindalco, Infosys, Satyam Computer, Wipro, BHEL, ONGC, Cipla, Bharti and ITC.
Ranbaxy today announced acquisition of 97 per cent stake in 6th largest Romanian generic drug company, Terapia which boosted the stock by 3.18 per cent to Rs 410.45.
The top losers on the Sensex were - Tata Power, ACC, HDFC, HLL, Hero Honda, Grasim Industries, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, NTPC and Gujarat Ambuja Cements.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty was trading at 3,333 with a gain of 8 points, as compared to the last close of 3,325 at 1331 hrs.
Era Constructions got listed on the NSE today at Rs 310 as against the issue price of Rs 292.30 of Rs 10 share. The scrip touched a high of Rs 311.20 and a low of Rs 300.55. It was trading at Rs 306 with a gain of 4.69 per cent at 1116 hrs.
Volumes were moderate with over one lakh shares traded so far.
