Lakhs take dip in Brahma sarovar on occasion of Solar Eclipse

Kurukshetra, Mar 29 (UNI) About 10 lakh pilgrims had a holy dip in the Brahma Sarovar and Sannihit Sarovar in this historic town on the occasion of the Solar Eclipse here today.

For the last two days, a large number of devotees from all over the country had been converging here to have a bath in the various reservois of the town during the Solar Eclipse, a unique event having great spiritual and religious importance. It was a coincidence that the Pehowa Mela (in Pehowa town) also happened to occur during the same period, which caused an increased the influx of the devotees.

The district administration and the police had made elaborate arrangements for security and safety throughout the Mela area. The state government had also insured every visitor coming to the mela for Rs one lakh each.

As soon as the Solar Eclipse started at 1630 hours the pilgrims took bath ind the holy Sarovars. They offered water to Sun god and offerings to the priests present near the Sarovars.

Puranas and other scriptures describe that a dip in the holy Sarovars of Kurukshetra at the time of the Solar Eclipse was an pious action, which leads the devotee to salvation. It is said by saints and sages that Sun god fulfills spiritual energy and vitality among the devotees on this auspicious occasion.

It is mentioned in the holy scriptures that Lord Krishna himself came to Kurukshetra for a holy dip on the occasion of Solar Eclipse.
