New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) The Indian Weightlifting Federation earned the dubious distinction of being suspended twice in less than two years after the sport's governing body in the world IWF 'temporarily banned' its Indian affiliate following a string of doping violations by its lifters.

''Regrettably, four adverse analytical findings were reported on the occasion of doping controls carried out on the Indian national team members this year,'' the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) said on its official Web site.

''The Indian Weightlifting Federation has been suspended, the duration of which will be decided by the IWF Executive Board at the end of May.'' The Indian body is no alien to such humiliations. In 2004 as well, it was banned for one year after women lifters Sanamacha Chanu and Pratima Kumari failed dope test at the Athens Olympics.

The latest decision has come close on the heels of two male lifters, Edwin Raju and Tajender Singh, being tested positive at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.

Just before the Games, ace lifter Shailaja Pujari was dropped from the squad following tests conducted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Another lifter Boradi Prameela Valli was also found on banned substance Stanozolol.

Meanwhile Indian Weightlifting Federation president H J Dora said they were yet to recieve an official word from the IWF.

''No we haven't had an official word on that from them (IWF). The matter is still in the Court of Arbitration for Sports and it will atleast another three-four months for it to be settled,'' Mr Dora told UNI here today.

''Probably they have made it public so that we don't choose teams for the competitions scheduled to take place in next one or two months,'' he added.
