Himalaya Classic Rally 2006 to reach Kolkata on Apr 10
Kolkata, Mar 29 (UNI) The UK based ROARR (Rythm of a Road Rallies) sponsored Himalaya Classic Car Rally 2006 from Islamabad to the city via Kathmandu will be reaching here on April 10.
The driving adventure of classic cars will cover routes still untouched by commercialisation.
The rally was flagged off by Dr G G Jamal, Pakistan Minister for Tourism, on March 15 last and entered India through the Wagah border on March 21.
At Kolkata, a grand finale is being organised in association with the Oberoi Grand where the participants will be welcomed and felicitated after the rally reaches its final destination.
Of the four Indian participants, three are from Kolkata.
These include Uday Bhan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Adhiraj Singh, who are driving Willys jeeps.
The Indian participants joined the Rally at the Wagah border.
They will visit places like Shimla, Mussoorie, Royal Bardia Park, Kathmandu, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Siliguri, Maldah and Krishnanagar before finally reaching Kolkata on April 10, 2006.
Presently, the team has covered part of the Indian Territory and is driving through Nepal.
The Rally has 18 vintage classic cars (Model 1936-1970) which include Bentley, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Vauxhall, Austin, Ford, Volvo and Mercedes Benz.
These cars were shipped to Islamabad from London for the month-long rally.
The participants came from the UK, the USA, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, Germany, Korea and India.
