Gold medal winning Indian bridge to be feted on April 1
Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) The victorious Indian bridge team which won the gold at Melbourne recently will be felicitated by The Contract Bridge Association at Matunga Gymkhana on April 1.
Dr N P Tolani, who sponsored the Indian team will be the chief guest on the occasion to felicitate the members of the team -- Ramavtar Agrawal, Archie Sequeira, Ajit Chakradeo, Finton Lewis, Anal Shah and Gopinath Manna which beat England to win the gold at the Commonwealth Nations Bridge Tournament, a release issued here today stated.
There were eleven national teams and nine non-national teams. As per the tournament rules, out of four qualifiers to the semi-finals, a maximum two teams from non-national or sponsored category could have been eligible for semi-final. India and England were the national teams and the other two Australian-sponsored teams qualified.
Tolani Shipping, sponsored by Dr N P Tolani's Tolani group of companies earned the right to represent India after beating Chennai's Well Knit in the trials in Mumbai, the release added.
