MUmbai, Mar 29 (UNI) Rajendra Padte, a co-accused in suspended encounter specialist Daya Nayak's disproportionate assets case, today moved Bombay HC for bail.

Justice V M Kanade, however, deferred the hearing to April 4 as the bail application had not reached the court.

Padte, in his plea, has sought bail on 'parity' basis. The High Court had recently granted bail to another accused, P Manivelan, in the same case on 'technical grounds' as the prosecution had failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated 60 days period.

Padte, who is booked in an anti-corruption case, had allegedly helped Nayak and his wife Komal for amassing wealth, beyond their known sources of income.

The High Court had earlier rejected Padte's anticipatory bail plea along with Daya Nayak and directed them to surrender before the investigating agencies. Following this, both of them moved the Apex court, which also turned down their plea.

They surrendered before the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) court after their bail applications were rejectred by the High Court and the Supreme Court. They are presently in judicial custody.
