CM constituted a committee to probe the alleged selling of children

Jammu, Mar 29 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today constituted a committee headed by Member of Parliament Chaudhary Lal Singh to probe the alleged sale of children by migrants of Talwara camp Reasi in Udhampur district.

Terming the media reports as serious, Mr Azad announced that the probe committee shall visit the spot and after ascertaining the facts, shall submit a report within 24 hours.

The chief minister's attention was drawn to the media reports and statements made on the floor of the Lower House regarding sale of children by some migrant families living in Talwara area of Reasi.

In view of the fact that these reports and statements are at Variance with the facts ascertained by the officers who visited the place, Azad constituted a committee. He nominated legislators Jugal Kishore (Congress), Rachpal Singh (NC) and Ghulam Hassan Khan (PDP) as its members.

Meanwhile, PDS minister Hakim Mohammad Yasin informed the Legislative Assembly that the reports regarding sale of children are baseless and ruled out that any such case has taken place as reported by the media.

Mr Yasin said, the SDM Reasi was directed to conduct an inquiry for ascertaining the facts regarding the issue adding that the SDM, after conducting the inquiry has reported that no such sale has taken place, the migrants of Tehsil Mahore are also demanding relief at par with Kashmiri migrants.

He said the administration has taken care of the migrants and a committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Additional Deputy Comissioner, Udhampur to ensure welfare of migrants.

''A cash relief of Rs 400 per person to the maximum of Rs 1600 per family, two kg rice, nine kg atta and one liter kerosene oil per family is being provided to 348 migrant families out of 938 families. The cases of other families are being assessed for relief purpose,'' Mr Yasin added.
