Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, Mar 28 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi today sought divine blessings before entering Rae Bareli -- the Lok Sabha constituency she represented before resigning from her seat, following the office of profit controversy.

She visited Lord Hanuman temple at Churuah on the Lucknow-Rae Bareli border this afternoon. Interestingly, Tuesday is Lord Hanuman's day.

After seeking blessings from the presiding diety of the colourfully decked up temple, Ms Gandhi also interacted with people and accepted their greetings with folded hands.

Earlier this morning, the Congress president arrived at Lucknow's Amausi Airport from New Delhi and drove straight to Rae Bareli, trailed by a mammoth cavalcade of around 100 vehicles including supporters, party leaders and mediapersons.

She, however, made impromptu stopovers at several spots along her route to interact with avid supporters, who chanted pro-Sonia slogans and showered their party's top leader with petals.

The AICC chief was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Salman Khurshid, Union Minister of state for Steel Akhilesh Das and AICC member and in charge of Congress' UP affairs Ashok Gehlot.

However, the three leaders returned to the state capital after escorting Ms Gandhi to the Rae Bareli border.

Ms Gandhi will address a rally at the Government Inter College ground in her former constituency, where she is also expected to announce her decision to contest the bypoll.
