Written by: Staff

Rae Bareli, Mar 28 (UNI) On her first visit here after resigning from the Lok Sabha on Thursday following the 'Office of Profit' controversy, Congress President Sonia Gandhi today launched a frontal attack on the BJP for running a relentless campaign against her and asserted that she was determined to remain in active politics for serving the masses.

Striking an emotional chord with the people of her constituency, Ms Gandhi declared that she would recontest from Rae Bareli as and when the Parliamentary byelection was held.

Addressing a mammoth rally, Ms Gandhi, without naming the BJP, said "Agar bijli bhi girti hai to yeh log kehte hain ki Sonia ki wajah se giri hai (even if there is lightning, they say it is due to Sonia gandhi)." She said "Their 'Enemy No 1' is Sonia Gandhi. Every stone, every arrow and every bullet they fire is aimed at hitting me." However, she said she knew her path was full of thorns but declared she was not going to lose and would not retract her steps Recalling what compelled her to resign from the Lok Sabha, the Congress President said an atmosphere had been created by the Opposition parties that the government was circumventing rules and regulations only to enable her to hold a position.

" I consulted Rahul and Priyanka (her son and daughter) and we decided that I must resign. The people of Rae Bareli are members of my family and I want to assure you that I will again contest from here," she said amid thunderous applause.
