Rs 49.34 cr to be spent on colleges in J

Jammu, Mar 28 (UNI) Under the Prime Minister's reconstruction package, Rs 49.34 crore will be spent on the construction of 14 new degree colleges in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a meeting convened here last evening, under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya, Director Colleges N D Wani said out of the 14 colleges work on seven was in progress whereas work on four more colleges would start soon with financial support from the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.

An amount of Rs 14 crore had already been allotted for the same and Rs 21 crore would be allotted during the financial year 2006-07.

The remaining Rs 14.34 crore would be spent during the financial year 2007-08, Mr Wani said.

Mr Bakaya directed the concerned authorities to make an alternative arrangement for students till the buildings of the colleges were completed. He also instructed Mr Wani to make available sufficient staff in the newly opened colleges.

Principal Secretary Higher Education Department A K Angurana, Secretary Education Department M M Bhat were among who others attended the meeting.
