Rs 1.5 Crore spent on TA/DA of the ministers in one year

Jammu, Mar 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government today informed the state Legislative Council that around Rs 1.5 crore has been spent on the foreign tours, travelling allowances and daily allowances of the ministers during financial year 2004-05.

Replying on behalf of the Chief Minister, the Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma informed the House that more than Rs 147 lacks have been spent on the TA and DA and state helicopter of ministers in last financial year.

In reply to a question of council members Nazir Ahmed Mir he said, Rs 84.22 lacks have been drawn as TA/DA by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and minister of other 36 departments. The expenditure incurred on the sorties of state helicopter during pervious financial years was Rs 61.78 lacks, he added.

Mr Sharma informed the house that the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had gove to Davos and Switzerland to attend World Economic Forum from January 25 to January 29, 2005 and again visited London and Dubai to participate in Handicraft Fair 2005 and Kashmir Festival 2005 respectively during February 07 to February 24, 2005.

''All the travelling expenses was bourn by the Central Government but an amount of Rs. 1.53 lacks was drawn as a daily expenses (DA) of Chief Minister, he added.

He further said the minister for Agriculture visited Italy, Australia, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and United Kingdom between July 24, 2004 and August 13, 2004. An amount of Rs 1.00 lacks was spent on this tour.

The members of the opposition were not satisfied with the reply and said the government is not disclosing the true expenses. Miss Sakeena Itoo of National conference argued that the minister visited seven countries on two sub-continents and spent Rs one lack only.

She wanted to know the real expenses of foreign tour of the minister. She was not satisfied with the reply of Sharma and staged or walk out from the House along with two NC MLC.
