RBI extends banking hours to accept tax payments
Mumbai, Mar 28: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will accept tax payments beyond banking hours on March 31, stated a press release issued here today (Mar 28, 2006).
At its Mumbai and Navi Mumbai offices, the apex bank will receive cash deposits representing taxes at the counters up to 4 pm on March 31, while cheques and other instruments representing payment of taxes to the government will be received up to 6 pm.
Other offices of the RBI that accept government taxes will also accept tax payments beyond banking hours on March 31.
The release added that instructions have also been issued to agency banks to receive taxes beyond normal banking hours on March 31. Over 890 branches of commercial banks in Mumbai are authorised to receive tax payments.
