Pakistan have tough task against Sri Lanka, says Woolmer

COLOMBO, Mar 28 (Reuters) Pakistan are in trouble after sacrificing the initiative to Sri Lanka in the first test, coach Bob Woolmer said today.

The tourists started the third day of the match on 124 for four but lost their last six wickets for 52 runs, before Sri Lanka reached 242 for two to lead by 251.

''We were looking to push on today starting on 124 for four but Sri Lanka bowled well and we played some average strokes,''Pakistan coach Woolmer told reporters. ''It was disappointing.

''After two days of cricket Sri Lanka are in front. If this was a soccer match we would be 3-1 down at half time,'' ''We need to get some goals in the second half and that means we must hope the pitch does a little in the morning and we can keep the target to manageable proportions,'' he added.

''Sri Lanka are ahead but there is still an opportunity for us to win this game and we have to be positive. We can't just sit back now and think of trying to get a draw.'' Sri Lanka's bowling hero Farveez Maharoof, who claimed a career-best four for 52, said the side were eyeing a large lead before any declaration.

''We are in the box seat at the moment but you never know with cricket and we want to make sure we are safe tomorrow with a target of around 350 to 400,'' the all rounder said.

''The pitch has eased a lot since the first day and is now playing well, although there is some bite for the spinners,'' he added.

The first day's play at the Sinhalese Sports Club was washed out.
