Over 100 trucks still stranded on NH-39
Imphal, Mar 28 (UNI) Over 100 trucks were still stranded at the Manipur-Nagaland border on National Highway no 39 due to the economic blockade called by the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) from March 25 midnight.
The government was trying hard to hold talks with the ATSUM leaders.
The ATSUM are demanding better educational infrastructure and, staff in hill areas and universities, among other demands.
Movement of passenger buses were not affected. However, all buses were checked by ATSUM volunteers to see if they were carrying any goods. The vehicles with goods were damaged after unloading the goods.
The truck drivers were facing a lot of problems as they were compelled to prepare food beside the road and wait for the stir to end.
The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Drivers' Union has appealed to the government to arrive at an amicable solution.
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) had also announced to support the stir if the demands were not fulfilled.
