Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) Leading ceramic tiles manufacturer Nitco Tiles has received license to import 12,816 MT of marble, the highest in the industry with a share of 9.90 per cent of 130,000 MT of total import license.

Imported marble is one of the few items that can be imported only against a license. The new policy for import of marble that was announced by Director General Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce on August 30, 2005, has now been implemented.

As per the earlier policy, marble imports were allowed under three categories -- marble processors, four and five star hotels, and temples and trusts. The new policy allows imports only by marble processors. Besides, the allocation of license is on the basis of turnover.

Thus, Nitco Tiles has obtained highest license to import marbles.

The allocation for Nitco has moved up 435 per cent from 2392 MT in the previous year to 12,816 MT.

Speaking on the occasion, Company managing director Vivek Talwar said, ''We import marble of high-end quality from various countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece, which goes to a lot of high-end commercial and residential establishments. We are happy that the policy gives Nitco an opportunity to import close to 10 per cent of the total imports.'' UNI AR MAZ SKB1639
