Naxalites kill Congress leader in Chhattisgarh
Rajnandgaon, Mar 28: A local Congress leader was shot dead by Naxalites today near Churia, about 50 Kms from here, in this district of Chhattisgarh .
Police said local Congress leader Ishaq Memon was on a morning walk when suspected armed naxalites shot him near a forest depot under Churia police station area.
The reason behind the killing was not immediately known. Senior police officials have reached the spot, the police said adding that further investigations were on.
Communist Party of India (Maoist) naxals are active in about 10 out of the 16 districts in the state and tribal areas of Bastar in the South and Sarguja region in the north, bordering Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand respectively.
