Murder accused gives slip to police

Junagadh, Mar 28 (UNI) Notorious criminal and prime accused in the Mulubhai Modvadia murder case, Maraman, gave a slip to three police constables at Manavader local bus stop and escaped while being taken to Jamnagar.

Maraman alias Lanngi Maldev, who is also allegedly involved in a triple murder case in Manavader taluka, was brought to the taluka headquarter from Vadodara to be produced in a local court. After the court proceedings yesterday, he and the constables were about to board a state transport bus to Jamnagar, when the accused managed to escape, police said.

Subhash Pandurang, one of the three armed constables escorting the accused, registered the complaint with the Manavader police.

Police immediately sent wireless massages to various departments and informed authorities about his escape, sources said.

The undertrial was to be moved to the Jamnagar jail, before being taken back to Vadodara.

Maraman was in Vadodara jail after he was shifted from Porbandar jail.

The accused was arrested in Mulubhai Modvadia murder case.

Mulubhai, a bussinessman and a close associate of Congress Legisative party chief and leader of opposition in the State Assembly Arjun Modvadia, was shot dead on the midnight of November 15 last year in Porbander.
