Ministry clears 12 Urban Renewal Projects

New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) The Union Urban Development Ministry has cleared 12 infrastructure development projects worth Rs 524 crore for five states under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The projects for Vijaywada, Hyderabad, Indore, Surat and Rajkot were approved by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) in its second meeting held here yesterday.

A ministry official said that of the Rs 215 crore central assistance for the project, the committee had recommended release of Rs 54 crore as first instalment. The Ministry would send its sanction to these projects to Department of Expenditure, for the release of the first installment of funds soon, he added.

The Mission would release the central assistance in four instalments depending upon the implementation of the sanctioned projects, the official said.

The projects are meant for providing water supply and underground draining facilities to the unserved areas of Vijayawada, construction of flyovers, laying pipelines and augmenting sewage treatment in Hyderabad, water supply scheme in Indore, sewage treatment in Surat, water supply and sewage treatment in Rajkot city.

CSMC had earlier approved 11 projects amouting to about Rs 400 crore for expansion and upgradation of water supply, water leak detection,storm water drainage, water pipelines, water treatment plants, watter channels and road over bridges in Nagpur, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bhopal.
